the Powder Blue Torpedoes Playoffs - Game 1

It's PLAYOFF time...and the PBT Fanclub is in FULL EFFECT. Tonight was the first playoff game and it was a high scoring, sweet move making, injury having, no goalie in net scoring, RAWKUS CROWD YELLING, thrice 'more cowbell' ringing, OVERTIME victory for OUR TEAM - the Powder Blue Torpedoes. I believe STEVE had at least 10 of the 13 goals, and if I saw the stats right, 12 assists. I don't know how that is right, but I think that's what I saw.

The first video I got is of the other team scoring on Brian. I know, I shouldn't be happy for the other team, but I'm there for a good hockey game, with good sportsmanship. So when #10 in the white shirt from the other team makes a chip the puck move between two opposing players in his zone, then goes coast to coast to score on Marc-Andre Fooker -> RESPECT.

Scoring was hot and heavy by our Torpedoes for most of the first period and a half. Then the worst thing that could happen, happens. Marc-Andre Fooker, the only goalie suited up, feels and hears a pop IN his body - show us where Marc-Andre?

Yeah, so that's not great. But the trooper and teammate that Marc-Andre Fooker is, he just had to try and stay in the game...A fact found out in the record books, Marc-Andre Fooker, in his 17 year Ice Hockey career - has NEVER had an injury...MAF lasted one shot on goal and went straight back down.

Hang in there buddy, your back-up STEVE Conklin will do a great job. Well, once you strip off your pads and give them to STEVE.

The Torpedoes, now knowing Marc-Andre couldn't continue, needed to STEVE in net before the ref was forced to drop the puck (they can't wait forever, it's in the rulebook). So the Torpedoes called a timeout. After their alloted time, the Ref tells them to get moving, and drops the puck in play with only one official goalie on the ice.

This next video is from the drop of the puck, but it's pretty long. The important parts are at 8 seconds when the other team scores on essentially an empty net, and at 1:53 when the Powder Blue Torpedoes score and the PBT FanClub goes crazy. The scoring in this video: at drop of the puck us winning 7-10, they score 8-10, we score 8-11.

This next video is of the Torpedoes scoring to make it 8-12.

Next thing the PBT FanClub knows, the score is 11-12 and we are still winning. It's the 3rd period and less than a minute left. In PBT FanClub typical excitement we start the 10 second countdown. With only 5 seconds left the puck is brought up by the other team, crossing the center line, then the blue line...I unfortunately don't have video proof of this...but I think STEVE let out a sneeze and blew the puck at supersonic speed into his own net. The refs talked it over, and the goal counts for the other team. We are now going into OVERTIME tied at 12-12.

The Powder Blue Torpedoes are now in a position of sudden death, first goal wins OVERTIME. And although their back-up goalie came in and made strong saves down the stretch for an injured Marc-Andre Fooker, THIS IS THE PLAYOFFS. Momentum mean a lot, and losing your veteran star goalie to injury has to weigh on the players mind.

Then the PBT FanClub comes to a realization that we are there for a reason...to be the voice of MAF, since he is too busy wincing in pain. It's OVERTIME and our Torpedoes need to get a goal...This video speaks for itself.

After the celebration, the two teams shook hands and mutual respect. No Brodeur-Avery stuff around here, good sportsmanship is key. Thanks to both teams for a GREAT game...Torpedoes will be playing again next Monday, 8pm, at BladeRunners in Cranberry.

Check back soon for official PBT FanClub merchandise.

The Roots listen to curtO, bad assness.

I'd like to say I had a conversation with The Legendary Roots Crew last night, but really I think they just listened to me and clowned me in the background...but it's all good...and it's all "bad assness."

The new CD from The Roots is called Rising Down, and was released today, April 29, 2008. I did a preorder from OkayPlayer.com a few weeks ago for their new CD and a Rising Down T-Shirt. Thanks to the USPS the package came in on Monday, a day before the release. But even better was I had a 40 minute drive North right after work so I brought that CD with me. So as I'm driving home last night, surprise to me, The Roots are on Sirius Satellite Radio, Channel 40 'Hip Hop Nation' doing live performances, talking, and taking calls. So after a couple wack callers talkin' bout they started listening to them in 2005, I decided to give them a call since I've got a decade of listening on these fans...after being on hold for a bit, they picked up the call from curtO in Pittsburgh, PA. Let's listen in...

Edit: It should be working now...woot! Thanks very much to my buddy Barry over at theCnik.com for helping me figure this shit (I can say shit right?) out...

Thank you Julie_Gong, and THE ROOTS

I regularly read another blog, A Blog of a Good Time by Julie_Gong. Today she had some information that may just contribute to a heart attack today...I'm really excited to begin the day because I took a half day at work to go meet up with the knuckleheads and friends to tailgate and then go to the Pens game.

Back in 1994-95 2 buddys (Tom and Boo-X) drove from Clarion University to IUP and met up with me to go to a concert by The Roots. Up to that point I heard maybe 1 or 2 songs by them, and had never been to a concert before. But after the concert was over I popped my concert cherry and became a life long fan, buying every CD of theirs since then.

So I was exctatic to find out on Julie_Gong's blog that The Roots will be doing a free and open to the public concert at CMU next Thursday, April 17th, 2008. Am I going to miss it? What do you think...Who wants to meet me there?
