Big Weekend! Penguins-Faber vs Pulver-RedWings

Things to watch this weekend...or attend. A price to pay for everything...
Saturday night is the BIG game 4 - Pens vs. RedWings. Taking offers on how:

Then, the fight I've been waiting for...Urijah Faber vs. Jens Pulver. Check out my blast from the past blog to see more about Urijah. I always used Jens on my X-Box game when he was in the UFC, but now this is the WEC-World Extreme Cagefighting. Should be a great fight...and it's free on Versus.

Then on Monday I'll be mobile blogging from Detroit for game 5 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, Pittsburgh Penguins vs. Detroit RedWings. Will there be a game 6? Check my view of the Stanley Cup Playoff's posted between Games 2 and 3...

What's up Mark Madden? Hows the j-o-b go

What's up Mark Madden? Hows the j-o-b going?

Craziness at the game. 1-0 Pens. 2 more

Craziness at the game. 1-0 Pens. 2 more periods. Word.

To Whom It May Concern

I have been asked over 30 times in the past two days - "What about the Pens, what happened?" But I also got a couple times - "I don't see them coming out of this."

So I will make this statement in reply:
"I expected the RedWings to take games 1 and 2, it is their home. I expect the Pens to take games 3 and 4, it is their home. So heading back to Detroit for game 5 will be a fun 2-2 game. Once again, I believe Detroit to take that game, it is their home. And game 6, a must win at home for the Pens, will win that, it is their home. Game 7? What will happen? The Pens will win, THE PENS FANS will make that their home on Saturday, June 7th. The Pens will win, because they will make Detroit their home. I'll be there, will you?
Mobile blogging again tonight...

LET'S GO PENS!!!

What is this? Malkin an Assistant Captain?

I have been corrected by Dr. Ryan Davis from ICB (Institute for Correct Blogging). Thank you for pointing out my error, Malkin was indeed an Assistant Captain for one game in the PreSeason this year...Linky. cO.

As I was flipping through my Upper Deck catalog that came in the mail yesterday, I came across a very interesting picture. The box advertises 2007-08 Upper Deck Series Two Hockey Trading Cards. But what's crazy is Malkin is on the box...but not just any Evgeni Malkin, Assistant Captain Evgeni Malkin with the big A on his left chest. Correct me if I'm wrong - but Malkin hasn't worn the A yet for the Pens, much less with the 250 Pittsburgh patch and 2007-2008 redone jersey...

Hummmm, Upper Deck, you have some explaining to do.

A Malkin story you won't believe

I'll just begin with - YOU won't believe this. I don't even believe it. I have good reason to not believe it...I wasn't even going to blog about this but since it's so crazy, I feel like I have to even if it is UNbleebable.

So I'm watching Penguins, Game 3 vs the Flyers last night and I have the 76-ThunderSticks on the TV. Why on the TV? I don't know...it wouldn't be because I was hoping 'this guy' was at the game and could sum'how see the ThunderSticks that didn't get to see much use before I got them...So they were just hanging out on the TV.

Just as I snap a picture of Malkin making a move, he UNbleebably trips over the sticks...trips for no reason and brings a Flyer player down too, luckily no penalty. The next shot they have of him has him on the bench, giving an evil eye to the 76-ThunderSticks.

Maybe some kind of mind tricks, but next thing I know Malkin reaches up and just plucks the 76-ThunderSticks right off my TV...pulls them into the TV and starts smashing them ON TV...

I don't understand it...thought maybe because it was late, I was tired, some reason my mind was playing tricks. So I forget about it.
As I'm watching ESPN, they show highlights of the game...at one point they show Malkin and he throws the 76-ThunderSticks back through my TV.

I don't believe it...Told you that you it was UNbleebable...

Don Cherry gives ESPN a skollage try

So I think Don Cherry paid the Pens, or Crosby, or Malkin, or MAYBE even the Flyers some kind of credit for playing a game called hockey during maybe game 3. I'm just not sure. If you can figure it out, please help me out. In the meantime, I'd like to ask Don the following questions - the times are captured when the question skreeched into my head and I looked at the YouTube clock:

  • Will you answer Neil's question? (:21)
  • What is a skollage try? (:31)
  • So is Crosby believeable or UNbleebable? (:34 and :43)
  • What do you mean by this: (:47)
"But Therrien, made a gre- Coach Therrien made a great play. The score was 2-1, now watch what he do, he takes Dupuis off the line of HOESOA and CROSBEE and he puts Staal on because he doesn't want the, you know - 2 to 1 thesase, great thing by Staal, UNBleebable. And that's how they did it.
  • Now you are just lying Don. Did you really teach Kennedy how to take his elbow pad off before a fight...(1:41)
  • Ok...that stupid rule? I didn't watch the game, and my feeling is that if you are getting NHL updates from ESPN you probably don't have a clue what happened at the Dallas-Detroit game. So Don. What stupid rule about for MoDANo, "getting the puck over" are you talking about? Delay of game for dumping over the boards? That's not the clip they had for you DON...and get over it, it's a rule...not a handicap for one team.(2:26)
  • WHAT? So there's an old story, what's the story, you don't tell a story, you say what you hate to say? But then don't say anything. (2:09)
  • Last question Don. Are you going to answer any of Neil's questions? (:01)

I really wanted to do a transcript for the whole thing, but I'd be here till next week trying to decipher what the heck he was saying...

How can this guy get on ESPN? I sounded better when I called into Hip-Hop Nation on Sirius Radio and talked to the Roots.

Tina cleans Mellon Arena of noise pollution

As the Pens beat Philly again tonight to take a 3-0 game lead, it reminds me of Sunday...what another great game for the Pens.

The Pittsburgh Penguins vs Philadelphia Flyers, Game 2 of Round 3 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs was this past Sunday...the only attempt of a Flyers fan and their obnoxious orange paired him with orange ThunderSticks. So needless to say I didn't want to have any problems, but what's the best thing to do??? I KNOW...Karma can ruin 'this guys' fun, not let him use his toys, have everyone around him laugh at him when the usher clowns him, have Pittsburgh beat Philly, then I can blog about it with pictures...5 for 5...I always like the way Karma works, this guy must have deserved it.

So below is a picture of Tina. She likes her seats. She is surrounded by fun, loud, lovable Pens fans. She has been a Season Ticket Holder for many many years. I think she would fight someone if they tried to take her Pens ticket, and I don't mean fight and lose...she would ask the potential thief, "WWGRD?"
But do you see the problem in these pictures. I try and take a photo of Tina enjoying the pregame, and that obnoxious orange from behind ruins the picture frame. With Summer ending I think most Pittsburghers agree we hate the bright orange. Whether it's the 'caution orange cones' of construction or our cross state rivals. The color just doesn't go well.

Just look at 'this guy' (click the pic above to get up and personal) and you know he wants to be as obnoxious as he can...Poor Tina with her delicate ears.

curtO just can't have someone be louder. After all, he is the President of the 'ExerciseFanClub' (details to come)... Who is going to be the loudest? curtO will be the loudest...but with those big ole' orange thundersticks, he could pose a threat. On the other hand, Tina is already showing concern about the loud banging possibility in her left eardrum, and I with my pictures. So I mentioned to Tina that if he gets a little too obnoxious with those things, maybe an usher should be aware that 'this guy' is disturbing your entertainment experience.

At this point the puck hasn't dropped, 'this guy' hasn't used his noise makers yet but is holding them like they are full of helium, Tina has disappeared, PensBlog Charlie thinks ThunderSticks look very interesting/tasty if only they were Pens colors, and I feel my phone buzzing - a text from Buzz up in F - "I got 20 bucks if you take those thundersticks and deflate them!"

So the players take the ice and the crowd goes wild...there is at least 5 horns within 10 feet of this guy but he has to be Phillyish...that's when karma get's him and it goes downhill for 'this guy.' He uses them...and then really, after the 3rd smack it's time for the usher to...WAIT...the usher is...um...already there. And now SHOCK of complete failure on his face.

STAY HOME FLYERS!!!

One last thing...HEY BUZZ!!! From over there at funwithBuzz.blogspot.com and up in the F section...YOU GOT MY $20 SPOT? Deflated indeed...

Please note, this post is chock full of sarcasm. OF course I want the Pens to win, and I think Mellon Arena should be SO rockin' that other fans should feel intimidated, but I don't wish anyone bad karma or harm. I don't know this guy, nor do I know if he would have caused trouble. But believe me, like girls of the world, Will Smith from Philly says, "orange ThunderSticks ain't nothing but trouble."

the Powder Blue Torpedoes Playoffs - Game 1

It's PLAYOFF time...and the PBT Fanclub is in FULL EFFECT. Tonight was the first playoff game and it was a high scoring, sweet move making, injury having, no goalie in net scoring, RAWKUS CROWD YELLING, thrice 'more cowbell' ringing, OVERTIME victory for OUR TEAM - the Powder Blue Torpedoes. I believe STEVE had at least 10 of the 13 goals, and if I saw the stats right, 12 assists. I don't know how that is right, but I think that's what I saw.

The first video I got is of the other team scoring on Brian. I know, I shouldn't be happy for the other team, but I'm there for a good hockey game, with good sportsmanship. So when #10 in the white shirt from the other team makes a chip the puck move between two opposing players in his zone, then goes coast to coast to score on Marc-Andre Fooker -> RESPECT.

Scoring was hot and heavy by our Torpedoes for most of the first period and a half. Then the worst thing that could happen, happens. Marc-Andre Fooker, the only goalie suited up, feels and hears a pop IN his body - show us where Marc-Andre?

Yeah, so that's not great. But the trooper and teammate that Marc-Andre Fooker is, he just had to try and stay in the game...A fact found out in the record books, Marc-Andre Fooker, in his 17 year Ice Hockey career - has NEVER had an injury...MAF lasted one shot on goal and went straight back down.

Hang in there buddy, your back-up STEVE Conklin will do a great job. Well, once you strip off your pads and give them to STEVE.

The Torpedoes, now knowing Marc-Andre couldn't continue, needed to STEVE in net before the ref was forced to drop the puck (they can't wait forever, it's in the rulebook). So the Torpedoes called a timeout. After their alloted time, the Ref tells them to get moving, and drops the puck in play with only one official goalie on the ice.

This next video is from the drop of the puck, but it's pretty long. The important parts are at 8 seconds when the other team scores on essentially an empty net, and at 1:53 when the Powder Blue Torpedoes score and the PBT FanClub goes crazy. The scoring in this video: at drop of the puck us winning 7-10, they score 8-10, we score 8-11.

This next video is of the Torpedoes scoring to make it 8-12.

Next thing the PBT FanClub knows, the score is 11-12 and we are still winning. It's the 3rd period and less than a minute left. In PBT FanClub typical excitement we start the 10 second countdown. With only 5 seconds left the puck is brought up by the other team, crossing the center line, then the blue line...I unfortunately don't have video proof of this...but I think STEVE let out a sneeze and blew the puck at supersonic speed into his own net. The refs talked it over, and the goal counts for the other team. We are now going into OVERTIME tied at 12-12.

The Powder Blue Torpedoes are now in a position of sudden death, first goal wins OVERTIME. And although their back-up goalie came in and made strong saves down the stretch for an injured Marc-Andre Fooker, THIS IS THE PLAYOFFS. Momentum mean a lot, and losing your veteran star goalie to injury has to weigh on the players mind.

Then the PBT FanClub comes to a realization that we are there for a reason...to be the voice of MAF, since he is too busy wincing in pain. It's OVERTIME and our Torpedoes need to get a goal...This video speaks for itself.

After the celebration, the two teams shook hands and mutual respect. No Brodeur-Avery stuff around here, good sportsmanship is key. Thanks to both teams for a GREAT game...Torpedoes will be playing again next Monday, 8pm, at BladeRunners in Cranberry.

Check back soon for official PBT FanClub merchandise.
